unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind,

or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word,

nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ

is at hand.” Now, this church was going through

much persecution, and they were being

persecuted for their faith. We read about that

in chapter 1. And the apostle is telling them to

be patient and wait and endure the persecution

and that the Lord one day will come back in

flaming fire taking vengeance upon the

apostates, upon those who deny the Lord, that

do not recognize Him as Lord and Savior.

So there was some controversy going on in

this church about the timing of the Lord's

coming, and verse 1 is talking about Jesus

Christ’s coming and our gathering together

unto Him, and he says in verse 2, "Don't be
