have professed faith in Jesus Christ, taken a
stand, a public stand for the Lord and His Word
and then totally and completely turned their
back on Jesus Christ and His Word. So that's the
idea that we see when we come to this subject.
It is not spiritual error. It is not heresy. It's not
even being an atheist necessarily, but it's
someone who has supposedly come into the
faith and then taken a total about-face and
denies the principles and truths of the Lord
Jesus Christ.
Now, let's talk about the context here just
for a moment; and, of course, there was
apostasy in the first century. I'm going to talk
about the development of apostasy in just a
moment, but first of all, the definition. And,
again, he says here in verses 1 and 2, “Now we
beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our
