The Devil’s Substitute

It has been said that entertainment is

the devil’s substitute for joy. When a

church substitutes entertainment

for the worship of God, it robs believers

of experiencing the joy of the Lord that

can be produced only by God’s Holy

Spirit when God’s holiness is magnified

and His Word is exalted. And God can

use that Spirit-produced joy in an

assembly of believers as a component

in the process of drawing unbelievers

to faith in Christ.

And why is it that children’s workers

and youth pastors think that they must

resort to silliness and humorous skits in
