any man love the world, the love of the
Father is not in him.”
And pastors are reluctant to preach against
the worldliness and sins that they know are
taking place in their own midst for fear of a
drop in attendance (and therefore a drop in
financial support). And even when the few
courageous pastors address specific sins in
their midst, there seems to be some kind of
a “disconnect” between the preaching of
the Word and the reception of the Word
into the hearts of those who hear. Like the
parable of the sower and the seed, God’s
Word appears to be falling on stony ground.
Could the words of Jesus in Matthew 13:15
be what we’re seeing in church life in these
days of apostasy?: “For this people's heart
