Day 8 – Colleen and myself ride to Sorell and onto Port Arthur. Bought back chilling memories of
our earlier visit to the Hobart AGM when we visited Port Arthur two weeks before the 1996 Port
Arthur massacre. Visited Tasman Arch, Devil’s Kitchen and blowhole on way. On way back to
Hobart visited Richmond and the old bridge.
Day 9 – All day tour to Bruny Island,
highlight being 3-hour boat tour to
South Bruny Island, amazing scenery
and wildlife.
Day 10 – Rest Day in Hobart, tried to
hire a car but none available in
Hobart. Lunch at casino and last night
in Hobart.
Day 11 – Left Hobart at 9.30AM via
Lyall Highway for lunch at Derwent
Bridge and onto overnight stop at
Queenstown.
Day 12 – Rode down to Strahan on
West Coast and did the Gordon River
Cruise and back to Queenstown for overnight.
Day 13 – Left Queenstown travelling via the Murchison Highway, through Rosebery and onto
Burnie. Attended extended NATCOM meeting at Ulverstone to learn that the Newcastle AGM bid
was unsuccessful. Travelled back to Wynyard for overnight, this was the closest hard bed we
could book close to the AGM sight at Ulverstone.
Day 14 – Travelled to Ulverstone for AGM morning, a look around trade exhibits but was
disappointed that there were no test rides on the Saturday. Travelled back to Wynyard to get ready
for bus trip back to Ulverstone for AGM Dinner. Great evening of socialising and meeting up with
many friends from the Ulysses Club from all over Australia.
Day 15 – Lazy rest day in Wynyard with a walk into town and back.
Day 16 – Departed Wynyard and headed to Stanley via Boat Harbour. Ride to Smithton and Dip
River Falls and back to Stanley for dinner at the pub.
Day 17 – Tour of the Nut at Stanley and arrived before chair lift was working, walked to the top
of the Nut and around it. Rode to Highfields and Cable Station and met John and Francis Madden.
Back to accommodation for last night in Tassie.
Day 18 – Rode to Davenport via, Wynyard and Ulverstone. Several hours in Davenport before
boarding the Ferry for the trip back to Sydney. Scored a great cabin with front facing portholes for
the journey home. Ferry left at 5PM.
Day 19 – Great trip home, smooth seas and sailed close to the South Coast of NSW arriving at
3PM. On bikes at 3.30PM and heading back to Newcastle, a break and a meal at the twin services
stations and back to the comfort of our own beds.
A memorable trip and another great AGM Event attended. This was our second motorcycle trip to
Tasmania which is a motorcyclist dream location.
