WEDNESDAY RIDE – 22 September 2021
Somewhere different for a change
By Ride Leader Mike Parker
23 riders assembled in the spring warmth looking forward to pies, coffee and of course a ride! Nice to see
Ross back after his operation.
For a change it was agreed that we would go to Wongan Hills via Toodyay and Goomalling. A quick stop
at Toodyay for those who wished to refuel and a departure point for those who did not wish to continue the
ride.
We departed our meeting point as Nigel arrived bringing our total to 24 riders.
Direct route to Toodyay, where the allure of a pie and coffee was too great for many and therefore our
group was reduced to 8 for the continuing ride.
Whilst uneventful, the ride to Goomalling had some beautiful scenery, the colours were awesome as the
canola yellow interspersed with rustic reds and browns made a picture that Picasso would have been proud
of.
Coffee at the local cafe on the Main Street was great. The cafe doubled as a boutique shop and even had a
pleasant outdoor seating area.
On to Wongan Hills where we stopped to top up the tanks at the local BP servo. Not as simple as we
thought! As all the pumps required you to use the prepay system, however the owner kindly unlocked the
pumps and allowed us to pay after refuelling. Was a bit of a carry on.
The bugs were in serious Kamikaze mode, my bike looks like a large bug. Will take a while to clean it.
Coffee and lunch at the cafe in the main drag. Hint if you ever go there do not order a small pizza as they
go to Italy to make it. Just ask Adrian.
All in all an enjoyable ride, 360 km round trip. Thanks to Des for TEC.
