Heartless is a book by Marissa Meyer and it retells the story of Alice in Wonderland
from the point of view of the villain, the Queen of Hearts. The story gives the Queen
a backstory that explains how she turned out to be evil. I’ve always despised Queen
of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, but this story absolutely altered my perception
towards her and I learnt that certain mistakes can completely transform someone’s
life.
2 .The Colour Purple
Genre: Domestic fiction
Age range: 16+
The Color purple is a fictional story which has been portrayed as the diary of a girl
named Celie who is writing to god playing out in a span of 40 years. It is revealed
early on that her father has been sexually and physically abusing her since she was
fourteen. In this book, I came across the self-destructive behavior and relationships
that an abuse victim unintentionally picks on. It was heartbreaking to read about
Celie’s agony. However, this book pushes us to be strong by keeping our weaknesses
aside.
