Will the Real Christians Stand Up
“I’ll guess I’ll take it,” the homeless man said as he
grabbed the food out of her hands. He wasted no time con-
suming the food. “Man, that was good,” he said, wiping his
mouth with his dingy sleeve. Adriana got a little closer to the
homeless man.
“How long have you been living out in the streets,” she
asked with a listening ear.
“It’s been so long I don’t remember,” he said as he took
off one of his shoes and scratched his dirty scabbed foot.
Adriana’s face showed compassion as she could only
imagine what it must be like to not have a family or place to
live. “You need medical attention for that foot,” she said with
concern.
“Oh, I’ll be okay,” he said, putting back on the shoe,
“This ole foot ain’t never gave me no trouble, so why trouble
it now.”
“Well, sir, do you mind if I ask you a question?”
The man stared at Adriana for a second then told her to
go right ahead as he propped himself up against the card-
board.
“Do you know Jesus?”
The homeless man laughed, “oh yeah, I know Jesus. Me
and Jesus go way back when I had my white Cadillac.”
The youth laughed at Zion as he continued to act out
the scene.
“No, sir,” Adriana said, trying not to laugh, “what I mean
is, do you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?”
“Oh, yes, I do. Me and Jesus talk all the time when I’m
not talking to myself.”
The youth laughed again. “You all are not supposed to
be laughing,” Adriana said to the audience as she attempt-
ed to hold in her laughter. The youth laughed more. Adriana
continued.
