               A NEW TYPE OF TYRE
               In the mid 1960’s Firestone produced a revolutionary tyre
            to try and combat the excessive wear problem of tractors
            running for longer periods on roads. They called it the ‘F151
            Field and Road ‘tyre.
               Not only did it have tread bars at a more acute angle, (23%
            in fact instead of the industry normal 45% or so,); but it also
            ran at a lower pressure to make these tread bars sit flatter
            right across the tyre surface.

               I ought to add here that radial tractor tyres were in a
            forward development stage at this time by Michelin who were
            even in the 1960’s producing undoubtedly the best tyres in the
            World.
               Michelin at this time held many of the important ‘patents’
            involving steel banded radial tyres which are the most
            successful of any radial banded tyre. Firestone and all the
