we lost touch for a few years until I visited Peter one evening
while I was ‘piloting’ a lorry on a journey back from the
Midlands. He was then living in Warwick and had, following a
serious heart problem, had been given a new heart valve.
They say the good die young and Peter died on his way to
work not long after my visit. He felt unwell, pulled into the side
of the road and the valve stopped functioning.
This photograph is Peter, and his manic grin We had just
tipped him out of the Mirror dinghy he had built himself in his
garage.
He was around when we were young and when times were

I really miss his help and buoyant enthusiasm for anything

This brings Book Two to a close.
