In days gone by it used to be, “check your oil sir”? or “how
many gallons”?
‘Father’ made a mint in engine oil by draining the last
morsel of oil from all those little one pint tin cans served on
the forecourt.
It all went into one huge metal funnel on top of one 50
gallon oil drum.
No matter what the viscosity of each little tin. 20w50,
sae30 and the rest all went into the same drum.
Then, the piece de resistance as it were was in serving this
melange to the unsuspecting motorist.
Poured back into lovely classic “Castrol oil” glass jars from
the 1950’s which were proudly displayed at the petrol pumps.
No protection for the consumer in those days!
