2. The operator MUST carry out daily checks on the plant before starting work, these
include fluid levels and safety checks, all guards are in place, ‘E’ stops are
working and doors locked shut. These MUST be recorded on a daily inspection
sheet where a duplicate copy is handed into the office with any defects reported.
3. When moving the trommel you should walk the route to be
taken making sure there is sufficient clearance for the
machine. If in doubt do not attempt to move the plant until
access has been made or inform the manager. Always
stand to the side of the machine when moving it. The
umbilical control or wireless control require finger
pressure to move the machine, so if pressure is released the machine
stops moving.
4. The setting up of the machine requires unfolding belts and lowering into position.
If the drum needs changing it should only be done when a member of
management is present and the following is undertaken:
• Risk assess the operation and ensure that all staff are competent and aware
of the risks
• Belts lowered down
• Feed hopper unpinned and slid forward
• Brush raised
• Engine switched off and key removed
• Engine door opened and engine cradle unpinned and pulled out
• Side door unlocked and opened and fired in open position
• Drum guide roller released
• Will require the assistance of 360 tracked machine
• A set of chains capable of lifting the load, attached to the 360 tracked
machine refer to: Using slings, chains & lifting equipment.
• Pass the chains through the trommel drum and join together centralising the
chains and drum
• The lift should be controlled by a competent operator making sure there is
enough height and room to place the drum on the floor. When ready to lift
and satisfied everyone is clear, check and understand relevant signals are
clear between machine operator and person in charge of lift, then the lift can
take place.
• When replacing the drum align fixed chain on the drum to correspond with
the sprockets in the trommel. When in place, remove the lifting chains from
the drum.
• Adjust the drum guide roller
• Lock the side door
• Replace the engine cradle and pin lock engine door
• Drop the brush down
• Relocate feed hopper and pins
• Ensure all staff and pedestrians nearby are clear of the machine
• You can now start the drum slowly to check completely located
