Operation of Plant
1. Before moving the machine, determine which way to move travel
pedals/levers for the direction of travel.
2. Always look around and confirm the location of bystanders before
moving or operating the machine. The operator must ensure that a
distance of 5 metres is maintained from pedestrians, vehicles or plant at all times.
If in doubt you must STOP gain their attention and request that they move away.
3. Use mirrors at all times ensuring they are clean and correctly adjusted.
4. Use a reversing assistant when operating machines in congested areas.
5. Select a travel route as flat as possible. Steer the machine as straight as possible making
small gradual changes in direction.
6. Use road plates in order not to damage road surface if you are travelling across the highway.
7. Do not make contact with electric wires, if you do stay in the machine unless you are at risk
from fire in which case jump clear ensuring that you do not touch any metal parts of the cab
or machine as you do so.
8. When driving over rough terrain reduce engine speed and select slow travel speed.
9. Make sure the work site has sufficient strength to firmly support the machine.
10. Avoid operations that may damage the track and undercarriage components.
11. Always use a ram prop if you need to gain access under any raised hydraulic components.
12. When working at height ensure that edges of stockpile are sloped to ensure no risk of tipping
and take extra care. Regularly assess stockpile taking into account height and length to
ensure there is no risk of landslide and never undercut a high bank.
13. Handle fuel with care as it can be highly flammable around hot engines.
14. Do not refuel the machine whilst smoking or when near open flame or sparks.
15. Always apply the handbrake and switch off the machine before refuelling.
16. During freezing weather park machine on a hard surface to prevent tracks from freezing to
the ground. Clean debris regularly from tracks and track frame.
17. It is company policy when purchasing or hiring new machines that they are supplied with air
conditioning. This enables operatives to work in a dust free environment. The correct
procedure for operating air conditioning is that you close all doors and windows and set the
air conditioning to a comfortable temperature. It is pointless having the air conditioning on
with the doors and/or windows open. This defeats the object of a dust free environment.
Please use the air conditioning in the proper manner for your own welfare.
EXERCISE CARE AND VIGILANCE AT ALL TIMES.
