Note: The mobile screens are used on site for dry processing sand, soil and hardcore. They
consist of conveyor belts, screens and feed hopper. They are tracked and moved at
approximately 1 mph via an umbilical lead or wireless remote.
The following safe systems of work MUST be followed:
1. Only trained and authorised persons can operate the plant. The operator will have
undergone training and assessments from either a competent person from TJ or an
independent training company.
2. The operator MUST carry out daily checks on the plant before starting work, these
include fluid levels and safety checks, all guards are in place and ‘E’ stops are working.
These MUST be recorded on a daily inspection sheet where a duplicate copy is handed
into the office with any defects reported.
3. When moving the screen you should walk the route to be
taken making sure there is sufficient clearance for the
machine. If in doubt, do not attempt to move the plant until
access had been widened or inform the manager. Always
stand to the side of the machine when moving it. The
umbilical control or wireless control require finger pressure
to move the machine, so if pressure is released the machine
stops moving.
4. Setting the machine up requires unfolding belts and pinning in place. Care MUST be
taken when aligning pinholes. Never place your fingers into the pin holes. When
changing the screens use walkways provided on the machine and use a mobile
telescopic boom if trained to do so, refer to SSW Working at height.
5. All lubricating points for the plant are accessed from floor level except the oscillating
bar that is at a higher level. Extra care must be taken when carrying out maintenance
to this part of the machine
6. Unblocking conveyors if they become blocked. Switch off machine and follow lock out
procedure. If any guards are removed to clean around rollers, they MUST be replaced
before removing the lock out procedure.
7. When using the plant the operator MUST be aware of other vehicles, plant and pedestrians.
If pedestrians come within the screens working area it MUST be shut down and stopped, refer
to Segregation of Pedestrians
8. If the operator leaves the machine it MUST be turned off and the key MUST be
removed from the ignition or handed over to another trained and authorised person.
The operator MUST be familiar with all the relevant safe systems of work and the relevant Risk Assessments relating
to this machine.
EXERCISE CARE AND VIGILANCE AT ALL TIMES.
