is monitored by the local authority.
7. If the crusher becomes blocked then the following actions MUST be taken
depending on the type of blockage.
A. Large material wedged at the point of entry into the jaw:
• Stop the jaw and release the hydraulic pressure isolate the machine.
• Remove the obstruction either by hand if it’s manageable and no risk
of crushing or trapping, or by using the re-handler and a suitable chain
• Operators MUST ensure they are in no danger before this is attempted
by removing themselves away from the area
• NEVER USE A CROW BAR OR SIMILAR TO UN-BLOCK THE
MACHINE WHILST IT IS RUNNING
B. Material wedged at the bottom of the jaws:
• With machine running but the jaw switched off, the operator can use
the controls to open and close the jaws to release the obstruction
• The obstruction will fall out onto the conveyor below
• When using this method it is prohibited for any person to attempt to
reach into the machine while it is running
C. Conveyor blocked on Jaw or Impact Crusher:
• Switch off the machine and isolate
• Remove guards if necessary to access blockage
• Once blockage is cleared the guards MUST be secured before
restarting
8. When the crushed aggregate stockpiles on the floor, there will be some waste
that requires picking. Staff MUST ensure that they do not put themselves at risk
when moving plant and vehicles; refer to SSOW 21.1 Segregation of Pedestrians,
as well as ensuring they are using the correct PPE and RPE to FFTP3 standard.
10. Do not make contact with overhead electric wires or buildings.
11. When driving over rough terrain reduce engine speed and select slow travel speed.
12. Handle fuel with care as highly flammable.
13. Do not refuel the machine whilst smoking or when near open flame or sparks.
14. Always stop and turn off the machine before refuelling.
