Note: The crushers are used for crushing large concrete brick, asphalt, rock and stone.
It will be used in close proximity to other machines and possibly pedestrians. To avoid
any collisions or accidents involving any of the above, the following safe systems of work
MUST be followed:
Operation of Plant
1. There are safety devices fitted on the machine to protect the operator and the
machine. These devices MUST never be tampered with or altered in any way.
These include:
• Engine start delay - 10 second delay ignition is on before engine can start
• Emergency stops - Engine and all drives on the crusher stop immediately,
the jaw and rotor will run on until fly wheel stops spinning
• Hydraulic release on the fixed jaw - It will automatically release if there is
an obstruction that cannot be crushed
• Time delay on the tracking - 10 second delay when travel button is pressed
2. When moving the crusher you should first walk the route to
be taken making sure there is sufficient clearance for the
machine. If in doubt, do not attempt to move the plant until
sufficient space has been made or inform your manager and
wait for instructions. Always stand to the side of the machine
when moving it, the umbilical control or wireless control
requires finger pressure to move the machine, so if released the
machine stops moving. If you are working as part of a team with a picker they can
provide a second pair of eyes but must maintain eye contact with the person driving
the crusher at all times and keep at least 5metres from the crusher whilst it is being
moved.
3. The operator will have to gain access to the walkways or platforms using the
ladders fitted. Care MUST be taken when doing so and have ‘3 points of contact’
on the ladder to reduce the risk of falling. Never attempt to climb down the ladder
front ways or jump off the platform.
4. To reduce the amount of dust from the crushing process the machine is equipped
with dust suppression which must be used when required. This is also an
