8 Eye Tests
Before driving any company vehicle or plant you will be asked to complete
a basic sight test this will require you to be able to read (with glasses or
contact lenses, if necessary) a car number plate made after 1 September
2001 from 20 metres. (This test will be conducted on a recurring 6 month
basis)
You must also have a horizontal visual field of at least 160 degrees, the extension should be
at least 70 degrees left and right and 30 degrees up and down. No defects should be present
within a radius of the central 30 degrees.
You must tell Harrison Industrial and the DVLA if you’ve got any
problem with your eyesight that affects either eye. If you fail the test
you will be suspended from driving and you may be asked to attend
a formal eye test to ensure that you are fit to drive.
9 Mobile Phones and Portable Equipment (Sat Nav’s etc)
The company has a strict policy
with regards to the use of hand
held mobile phones and any
portable electronics equipment
whilst driving any company
vehicles or operating any item of
machinery or plant.
Harrison Industrial plant and
equipment is not fitted with any
hands-free devices and must
therefore be stationary with the
engine switched off before
being used.
To ensure maximum safety it is company policy to stop the vehicle where it is safe to
do so before making or receiving calls or using any handheld device.
The use of hand-held mobiles or any device whilst driving is illegal and strictly prohibited
under our Health & Safety Policy as it is extremely dangerous.
Failure to comply is considered gross misconduct and disciplinary action will be taken.
If you are caught by the Police and accept a roadside fixed penalty notice, you will receive
points on your licence and a fine. If a case goes to court, in addition to points, you could face
discretionary disqualification on top of a maximum fine of £1,000 (or £2,500 in the case of
drivers of buses/coaches and goods vehicles)
