You may have heard or read that the Desert Tortoise Conserva-
tion Center (DTCC) in Las Vegas is scheduled to lose its fund-

ing next year. The Pet Desert Tortoise Pick-Up Service has been
discontinued and unwanted tortoises must be dropped off at the
Lied Animal Shelter. Currently, the shelter transfers the tortois-
es to the DTCC. Eventually the Lied Animal Shelter hopes to
         offer an adoption service.

The tortoises will start brumating in October or November and
will stay in their burrows until the weather warms up in March
                                                       or April.
