What is Career Technical Education (CTE)?
At its core, the mission is to prepare students for success in college and careers by helping them develop skills, technical
knowledge, and experience for high-skill, high-demand, and high-wage careers.
Benefits of Career Technical Education
Lodi Unified School District is proud to offer thirty-two different CTE pathways in which students can enroll beginning in
their sophomore year. CTE pathways allow students to earn college credits toward an associate or bachelor’s degree
while still in high school. In addition, CTE programs have partnerships with employers in their communities, who may
provide training, mentorship, opportunities for internships, networking and entry-level jobs.
Regardless of whether students are headed for college or the workforce, this type of education will help them prepare
for the future. In fact, college-bound students can get job experiences to help them define their career plans, identify an
appropriate course of study and help pay for tuition.
How do the pathways work?
A CTE Pathway is a multi-year sequence of courses that incorporates core academics with technical and occupation-
related knowledge to provide students with a direct skills pathway to post-secondary education and careers. CTE
pathways generally consist of three courses:
- Introductory Course
- Concentrator Course
- Capstone Course
A student is considered a “completer” if they complete at least the last two courses (concentrator and capstone) in a
pathway. All courses must be in the same pathway for students to be considered a completer.
Some courses offered in Lodi Unified give students the opportunity to become completers with a 2-period course
offering. These courses are identified in the course catalog as having 20 credits. All courses at Lincoln Technical Academy
are 2-period offerings, as well as several classes at various comprehensive high schools.
FREE college credits?
YES! Many of the Career Technical Education courses in Lodi Unified School District have articulation agreements in
place with local community colleges. This means that when a student successfully completes the course or pathway and
meets the grade requirement, they are eligible to earn credit with the participating institution. These college credits are
FREE and are often transferable to other community colleges as well as UC’s and/or CSU’s. This allows students to meet
college prerequisites as well as get through college faster and with less debt.
Please see page 21 for a list of courses that are eligible for college credit.
Be sure to speak with your school counselor to enroll in these courses.
