Step 9. Find and Sell to Buyers 1 87

• While you don't want to nag the buyer, you can follow up and
ask if sales are meeting her expectations. If they're not, brain
storm a way to help. Again, you don't want to be a pest, but if
you can offer realistic, viable options, the buyer may want to
hear them. If sales are exceeding expectations, that's wonderful
but also another opportunity to offer your help (and a new sales
pitch for more units or more of your line).

                          Special Shipping S ituations

While many small accounts will only need their items packed and
shipped with your carrier's label (and packing slip), others will have
more elaborate demands. Here are two you may encounter.

                    Routing Guides for Large Accounts

Your larger accounts will usually have shipping or routing guide
lines that detail their expectations for how product will arrive in
their warehouses. You must follow their instructions or be charged
fees for mistakes. You can even be charged for seemingly small mis
takes, like not putting the upe in the exact corner spot on the outer
carton. Many stores require a lot of information on an outer box
label. Be sure to double- and triple-check before sending out these
kinds of packages.

Department stores are notorious for having extremely detailed
shipping and labeling instructions and then meticulously reviewing
for compliance. Some people think they generate substantial rev
enue from vendor chargebacks for the mistakes . While it can be a
pain, be sure to follow the instructions. Not doing so only costs you
money and potentially a lucrative account. Most stores ask for all
the information in a certain way so they can properly and qUickly
distribute and sell your product. The last thing you want is for any
silly mistakes to prevent them from doing that.
