                                      The researcher thinks Figure 5 represents a realistic balance and effective

                            way  to  incorporate  assessment  to  promote  student  learning.  What  must  be


                            understood is that teaching and learning are meaningless without assessment.

                            If the three approaches are an integral part of the learning environment, the

                            assessment is also part of the learning process. The integration familiarizes


                            students with making decisions about their learning progress and planning the

                            improvement process. As a result, the teacher does not initiate the improvement


                            process alone. In integrating these three approaches, giving feedback is not

                            only done by the teacher but also by the students themselves and their peers.


                            The  forum  asserts,  "Later  in  the  program,  students  need  to  become  less

                            dependent  on  the  teacher  for  their  feedback  and  more  autonomous,  self-


                            regulated learners" (p.88).
