LGRA AND NOTRA NATIONALS WINNERS

1995-2013

Every year in the United States of America, the Large Gazehound Racing Association and
the National Oval Track Racing Association offer their Premier event: The Nationals. The
first NOTRA National for Sloughis was in 1995 in Texas, the first LGRA National was in

1997 in Virginia, the same weekend as the third NOTRA National for other breeds than
Whippets. The USA are a large country, and the location of these events is rotated across
it to enable access to all competitors. Participating in such events with Sloughis required
long distance driving to the states of California (twice), Colorado, Indiana, Minnesota,
Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas (twice), and Virginia.

The trip down to and back from Texas was one “for the records”. We left early and drove
down with 7 Sloughis not realizing that miles are not kilometers! We arrived after driving
under pouring rain at midnight! On the way back we were met with pounding rain and
violent winds and started seeing cars left and right of the road. They looked as if they had

been tossed in the grass. “What happened here?”. Then cars parked under bridges.
Oblivious to what was happening, we continued driving and finally got home. We fed the
dogs and ourselves then turned the TV on. Shocking major announcement about bad
weather and a tornado warning in the area…….we looked at each other: “Oh!”
