Let us take the LGRA as an example

The final scores of all the dogs at an event are added to a database containing all the dogs
racing with that association. They are integrated in a complex formula that calculates,
from the total scores of the last 2 or 3 events the dog was entered in, what is called the
dog’s “wave”. The dog’s wave determines in which race the dog will start at the next
event. The LGRA Grading Guide provides the names of all the dogs who have raced in
LGRA, their waves and their points.

In any given event, when there are more than 4 dogs in a breed entry, the dogs are
entered in the first program according to their Grading Guide waves.

The dogs are thus grouped according to their speed. There are Low Point races (dogs

with lower waves) and High Point races (dogs with higher waves). LP and HP races are
scored differently during an event. There is always only one High Point race, no matter
the number of entries of 8 and above.

A dog entered for the first time, having no wave, always starts in the Low Point race.
Entries of 1-4 are considered High Point races and scored accordingly.

In the second program, the winning racer of the Low Point race moves up to the High
Point race, the last of the High Point race moves down to the Low Point race.
In the third program, the scores between programs 1 and 2 are added for each dog, with
the lowest totals grouped in the Low Point race and the highest in the High Point race.
The scores of the 3rd program are then added to the scores of program 1 & 2, and the
        dogs ranked.

The final ranking of all the dogs entered at an event determines which racer gets the
points for a Gazehound Racing Champion title GRC (12 points) and the national points for
a Supreme Gazehound Racing Champion title SGRC (30 national points), SGRC2 (60
        national points), SGRC3 (90 National points), SGRC4 (120 national points) SGRC5 (150
national points) SGRC6 (180 national points) and so on. The same applies for Oval Racing
Champion (ORC) and Supreme Oval Racing Champion (SORC) titles.
