Disqualifications (DQs)
A dog that gets 2 DQs within a calendar year cannot race for a year from their last DQ. If a
dog gets a 3rd DQ, it is banned from racing.
A test run suffices to check how keen a dog is to chase the lure and determine if it can
enter an official event.
NOTRA clubs use white and/or black plastic bags attached to the line as lures and
sometimes a small piece of fur is attached to the lure. The lure is either a mechanically
dragged lure, on a continuous loop or a rail-track lure.
In LGRA the lure consists of a white and/or black plastic bag attached to the line, with a
furry lure that contains a squawker. As the lure is pulled in front of the dogs, it squawks
as it bounces on the ground. The lure is either a mechanically dragged lure or on a
continuous loop.
Two LGRA lures (real or fake fur) and the squawker inside the pouch.
How the dogs are scored
The scoring system in American Amateur Racing is quite complicated and very different
from European sighthound racing. It is similar between NOTRA and LGRA.
The racers are not typically clocked for their speed but scored according to their
placement at the finish of the 3 races of each program. These scores are added at the end,
with the winner getting the highest score, and the numbers trickling down for the other
placements.
