Are you active with your dogs?
Showing we do occasionally. Especially the club match, we do always try to enter. At
bigger shows you sometimes get judges who don't really know the breed and the standard
and then describe exactly the bad points as good. Then I'd rather get a justified Very
Good from our chairman . All our dogs are Dutch Beauty Champions though (except
Zinah of course), Faruq won the Winner title once and Gabr won the title Dutch
Champion Beauty and Performance; I actually think that is the title to aim for.
We do run on the track occasionally, especially
Ghaada likes that very much. But what we are
most active in is lure-coursing. We have
competed regularly with all our dogs and still
do. Ferda won the title of European Coursing
Champion in 2005, which was quite special.
Since 2005, we have been present at almost all
European and later World Championships, with
several podium finishes. Of course, we now
know many people from various foreign
countries with the same hobby and it is always
nice to see and talk to each other again and to
Ferda European Coursing Champion in 2005 enjoy each other's dogs.
We don't actually do any special training. We walk at least 7 to 10 km every day with the
dogs where they are off-leash most of the time. That means regular running and playing
with other dogs (and very occasionally with a hare). There is no greater pleasure for
Ghaada than to be able to run with a whole bunch of dogs behind her, over the grass and
through the loose sand. From an early age she got to know her own body very well and so
she regularly jumps at full speed over the wooden benches and tables in the walking area.
Are you involved in any social activities with your dogs, such as visiting the elderly,
obedience classes, etc.?
With the first dogs I did take puppy courses but later I didn't. And with Ghaada I couldn't
because of corona.
With Ferda I once visited Mrs. van Ommen Kloeke (a well-known sighthound judge and
Sloughi breeder in the Netherlands), together with my Sloughi-friend Reina Bijleveld,
when she lived in the home for the elderly. Mrs. van Ommen Kloeke immediately started
judging Ferda when she saw her, which was quite unexpected.
