The 79 Eastern Regional Conference Evaluation Summary
th
April 25-28, 2019
The 79th Eastern Regional Conference convened April 25-28, 2019 at the DoubleTree by Hilton
Hotel, Richmond, Va - Midlothian. Alpha Zeta Chapter, under the leadership of Basileus Diane
Gary-Jones, Conference Chair Lila O'Neil, and Co-Chairs Laveda Brayboy and Brenda Taylor,
spared no expense with their hospitality , time. and hard work, in preparation for our conference
weekend. The theme was "Meeting the Needs of the 21th Century Learner - STREAM."
I am proud to report that there was an increase in soror participation in the second year of our
electronic evaluation reporting. From the responses submitted, the regional conference an overall
rating of 5, with 5 being the highest rating possible. The ease of registration, availability of
materials, Basilei Institute, Leadership workshops, Vital Issues Breakfast, Traveler's Hospitality,
Friday Night Reception, Literacy Luncheon, Rap Dinner, Keynote Speakers, and Award Banquet,
all received high ratings of 5 out of 5. The Hotel accommodations, Staff, and Food and
Beverages received a 4 out of 5.
The general consensus of survey responders is that the 79th Eastern Regional Conference was a
success. Accolades were extended to Eastern Regional Director Noreen E. Little and Alpha Zeta
Chapter commending them for a job well done. Alpha Zeta showed the visiting Sorors great
southern hospitality as they attempted to meet all of their needs. Other special commendations
were given to all of the weekends keynote speakers and workshop presenters.
Several concerns were mentioned regarding the lack of adequate elevator service during the
weekend. It was inconvenient and caused extended wait times for events and inconvenience for
Sorors with mobility scooters.
Other concerns were regarding the food shortage during the Friday night reception. The
inadequate hotel staff in the restaurants in the hotel was also a concern.
It was suggested that other meat choices, not just pork bacon, be available for breakfast meals.
One Soror commented that she was so inspired at the conference that she planned to return to her
home chapter and place her name back on the slate to run for chapter office.
One last comment was regarding time management for events and trying to adhere to schedules.
Respectfully,
Anona Huntley
