PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
TEACH-A-RAMA: Number of Sorors: 12Xinos: Kudos: Others:
Description of the Activity: The program started with participation in a restoration circle which
involves each member sitting in a circle. The questioned was posed, What can we do to help our
chapter grow?" Sorors went around and spoke of ways we could increase our membership. We
then took park of a deep breathing exercise to help relax us. The sorors were given yoga tools to
assist in the classroom. We discussed how to take care of ourselves and our favorite outlet. The
sorors were given stress ball and slinkys to use and play with to assist when feeling stressed. The
session ended with healthy snacks.
PUBLIC RELATIONS: Number of Sorors: 7
Description of the Activity: The members of the Public Relations committee are responsible for
sending information related to the Y.E.S. Programs activities using email, text, and through our
website. Sorors also continued to use phone calls, flyers and through word of mouth, to inform
the public of the various activities of Alpha Zeta Chapter.
COMMISSION ON CIVIL RIGHTS, EDUCATION AND LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS
(ACADEMIC ISSUES AND CURRENT TRENDS): Number of Sorors: 1
Description of the Activity: On Wednesday, December 19, 2019 Soror Dianne Gary-Jones met
with Richmond Public Schools new Superintendent Jason Kamaras . The meeting was held to
introduce the of National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. Alpha Zeta Chapter. We discussed
the various service projects and activities that Alpha Zeta Chapter has sponsered over the years.
It is our goal to improve and increase service to the students and teachers of Richmond Public
Schools moving forward in 2020.
INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS (SISTERHOOD)
Sisterhood Activities: Number of Sorors: 8 Others:
Description of the Activity: In order to maintain sisterly relationships the sorors would go out to
dinner at local restaurants. In December we met for our Holiday Dinner and engaged in sisterly
discussions,games and exchanged gifts.
FOUNDER'S DAY: Description of Activities: May 19, 2019 - On Sunday, May 19,
2019 Sorors of Alpha Zeta traveled to Hampton, VA. We worshiped at the First Baptist Church
of Hampton, Virginia to observe PDK Founders' Day. The Tourch Lighting Service was
performed at the church. We continued fellowship with dinner at Surf Riders Restaurant also in
Hampton, Virginia.

HEALTH, NUTRITION, and HYPERTENTION: Number of Sorors: 10 Description of
Activity: A representative from the YMCA made a presentation at Saint Phillips Episcopal
Church. She spoke to the group about healthy cooking, meal planning and portion sizes in our
diets. Each attendee was given a health assessment to determine if we are at risk for pre
diabetes. Her presentation was followed by question and answer. Attendees were given
information to take home that would help with healthy meal planning and portion sizes. The
program ended with fellowship and healthy snacks.
SENIOR TEACHERS/ SECOND CAREERS/ RETIRED SORORS VOLUNTEER
PROGRAM ( RSVP) Number of Sorors: 1 Description of Activity: On August 14, 2019
Soror Dianne Gary-Jones a retired teacher responded to the call of action from a local television
station to come out and volunteer with the Ultimate Backpack Drive for RVA students for the
last two hours. The goal was to pack 14,000 backpacks filling each backpack with 20 school
supplies by 6:00 p.m. In a sea of volunteers wearing blue shirts, her beautiful NSPDK, Inc. red
and gold shirt truly stood out.
