AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY: Number of Sorors: 16 Others:109
Description of the Activity: The History of African Americans in Louisiana as shown through the
music from 1920 through the present in the production entitled: New Orleans the Soul of a
Nation. The show used music and dialog to both educate and entertain the more than 100
individuals that were present. The plight of blacks during the flood of 1923, that also destroyed
the ninth ward, was depicted in song and video presentations. The rise of black musicians,
writers, poets and actors showed the differences that were encountered between whites and
people of color. .
