                                                                                                              2

In our efforts to reach out and touch a child, we partnered with the New York Common Pantry.
Understanding that many parents face difficulty in feeding their families, Sorors helped to package
food to be distributed to members of the community. It is our belief that students can concentrate
better when they are not hungry. Thank you Soror Joy for initiating this collaboration.

              PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Description of the Activity: As a continuing chapter initiative, Sorors of Beta Epsilon Chapter help
to support the college process of a selected group of seniors from Thurgood Marshall Academy.
Seniors are exposed to a myriad of workshops concerning should I go to college, choosing a college
or university, filling out the FAFSA application, etc. The cumulating event is the joint attendance
of sorors and students at the Malcolm Bernard HBCU College Fair in New York, where students can
apply to attending colleges/universities for free. Sorors helped students to fill out applications and
motivated them to not give up, especially when the lines are very long. Many students were offered
multiple on the spot admissions as well as scholarships. Thank you to my chapter sorors for
attending and supporting this important initiative.
LEADERSHIP TRAINING: Number of Sorors: 10
Description of the Activity: In addition to our annual retreat, we have incorporated the MoPP
Moment and the Parliamentary Point into our monthly chapter meeting. Sorors are given an
opportunity to learn/discuss how to conduct NSPDK, Inc. business as well as understand basic
Parliamentary Procedures based on Roberts Rule of Order. Sorors are also directed to read a
particular section to prepare for the next meeting. This initiative has lead to more productive and
efficient meetings. Thank you Sorors Zina and MoniKa for spearheading this initiative.

published "A Year in Review" Newsletter. This newsletter was shared with Sorors, family, friends
and other community based organizations that we have a relationship with. Thank you Soror Debbie

Description of the Activity: Based on the concerns of our chapter Sorors, we decided to focus on the
programs that offered forgiveness of student loan debt, particularly for public servants. We
especially wanted more information on navigating the federal forgiveness loan programs. After the
UFT hosted a seminar to address this issue, Sorors were presented with hope and are currently
applying for loan forgiveness as well as passing on information to others that may qualify. Thank
you Soror Dawn for the information.
