Renaming and Deleting Files and Folders
There are several ways to rename files and folders. You can
select the file, On Home tab, click Rename from the menu, and type in a new name;
select the file and right click on it, choose Rename from the shortcut menu, then type in new name.
select the file, pause, then single click again, type in new name.
Note: when renaming, you must include the same extension as on the original name; otherwise the file
will not work properly.
RENAMING AND DELETING
1. In the Lesson 1 folder, you will rename the Friday.rtf file.
Select Friday, click Rename on the Home tab. . When the
blue bar appears in the filename, type in a new name:
Thursday. Be sure to leave the .rtf extension. Enter. The
name has been changed to Thursday.rtf
2. In the Lesson 2 folder, rename the To Do List.rtf file to
Work List.rtf. Right click on To Do List, choose Rename,
then type in the new name—Work List.rtf. Enter
3. Right click on Windows Unit folder. Choose Rename,
then type in Windows Practice. Enter
Periodically, it is necessary to clean out old files. Right click to

CAUTION: When deleting from most drives, files
and folders are permanently gone and cannot be
recovered! When you delete a folder, every file in
that folder and every subfolder is also deleted!
Exception: files deleted from the hard drive (Drive C),
especially on your personal computer, go to the Recycle Bin,
where they can be recovered if necessary.
Windows 10 has a new feature: Under Home, Delete arrow,
there are 3 choices. Make sure the Show Recycle
Confirmation is turned on with a checkmark.

select the file or folder, press the Delete key on the keyboard. Confirm Yes or No.
select the file or folder, right click on it, choose Delete from the shortcut menu, confirm Yes or No

Turn on this feature: Home tab, Delete arrow, select Show Recycle Confirmation.
