(medical, dental, life, disability, retirement plan, etc.) following the first month of leave. During
an extended unpaid leave of absence without pay, an employee may continue to participate in
group insurance programs by electing to pay the total cost of the benefits plus administrative
fee.
Anyone taking an extended leave of absence will have their accrued Annual Leave and PTO noted
in their employee file and will have the amounts reinstated upon returning to work, if the accrued
amount is not used prior to the leave date.
9.9 Bereavement Leave
Bereavement leave provides paid time off for full-time employees in the event of a death in their
immediate family and extended family
An immediate family member for purposes of nou Systems’ bereavement leave policy includes
the following:
• Spouse
• Child (including foster children, stepchildren)
• Parent (including legal guardian and stepparent)
• In-laws (including mother and fathers-in-law, brother and sisters-in-law, and son and
daughters-in-law)
• Grandparent
• Grandchild
• Sibling
An extended family member for purposes of nou Systems’ bereavement leave policy includes the
following:
• Grandparents-in-law
• Aunts and Uncles
• Cousins
To be eligible for paid bereavement leave, employees are expected to notify their supervisors at
the earliest opportunity so that the supervisor can try to arrange coverage for the employee's
absence.
9.9.1 Eligibility
All regular full time and part-time employees are eligible for bereavement leave beginning on
their date of hire.
9.9.2 Length of Absence
Eligible employees may take up to three (3) bereavement days for immediate family and one (1)
bereavement day for extended family.
