“Hard Work Pays Off”
Although an old adage, it has proven to be a testament for our chapter, as we highlight the Carrousels of St.
Louis, Missouri and their families for their numerous personal accomplishments.
Carrousel Leslie Thomas-Washington, chapter vice-
president, was promoted to the position of assistant
superintendent of schools in the Jennings School District for
the 2022-2023 school year. In this role, she is responsible for
the supervision of district principals and also serves as the
Title IX and 504 coordinator. Prior to this assignment, Leslie
successfully completed a 15-year tenure as a principal in
the Ferguson-Florissant School District where she received
numerous accolades for excellence in education.
Kirk Washington Jr., son of Carrousel Leslie and Carrafella
Kirk, recently started a new career path as a student success
coach at Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Kirk is a Hampton University graduate with a Bachelor of Arts
degree in education. He has a passion for mentoring and
working with students and strives to empower them to reach
their career goals. Kirk is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated and a sports enthusiast. He
also has his own luxury clothing brand.
Carrousel Erica Bumpers, chapter parliamentarian,
recently joined the Brown School’s Race and Opportunity
Lab as the associate director and director of administration.
In her new role, she oversees people operations, the
HomeGrown Campaign, and works directly with and supports
the principal director. Part of her responsibility is to execute
strategic implementation and growth of HomeGrown STL.
Previously, she served as the Inaugural club director of the
Teen Center for Excellence at the Boys and Girls Club of
America in Ferguson, Missouri.
