Noise




                •     All plant, machinery, tools and equipment
                      generating excessive noise must have the
                      correct silencing device(s) fitted, which must
                      function correctly.

                •     Areas where excessive noise is present
                      must be clearly identified to employees using
                      signage and hearing protection must be

                      be notified to others in the area in advance.

                •     Contractors must carry out noise
                      assessments to identify appropriate type of
                      hearing protection.

                •     Hearing protection must be worn by all
                      operatives when entering a noise zone. Ear
                      muffs are preferred to ear plugs for long

                      durations.
                •     Any operative using power tools exceeding
                      85dB must wear ear muffs.


                                             Hearing protection is freely available
                    Between 80dB & 85dB       and people must be informed that
                                                    their hearing is at risk
                                              Ear protection must be worn by
                         Over 85dB           all persons entering and working
                                                      in a noise zone
