Manual handling
• All site operatives must attend manual handling training
before completing project induction.
• Always risk assess the load before lifting – size, weight.
• Plan your route and ensure there are no obstructions
along the way or at the destination.
• Use mechanical lifting aids where possible.
6. Welfare and Health
• Use team lifting techniques where mechanical means
are not possible. Consider the team mates – similar
height, capability etc.
• Know your limits: Don't lift or handle more than you can
easily manage. There's a difference between what
people can lift and what they can safely lift.
• Always keep the back straight, lift with the legs and keep
the load close to the center gravity of the body at all
times.
• Never twist the torso when lifting. Always turn the body
with your feet.
• Congested workspaces: Spatial awareness and correct
body positioning is required.
• Warm up and stretch before starting work activities.
