Previously with Equity Residential for eighteen years, Trammel Crow for two before that. I
started out on site at Bothell Ridge (Essex owned now) in 1991. I’ve been a Groundskeeper,
Maintenance Technician, Maintenance Assistant, Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance
Director, Regional Maintenance Director, Construction Services Manager I & II. Project
Manager & Division Manager. I am coming up on eight years now with Essex. I started as a
Project Manager but quickly became the “Acting DM for CMS” until I was later officially
                           made the DM.

Jones The thing I like best about Essex is the way we do things and our methodologies. SMC
approaches every situation with an open mind and a common-sense approach. The levels
Divisional of approvals are thorough but not too bureaucratic major multi-layered.

         Manager- CMS
I’ve always considered my greatest strength to be my leadership ability. This leads me to be
able to build great teams and maintain great people. I’ve always had a take charge persona.

The most important leadership lesson that I’ve learned over the years is for one to
appreciate often in the way that each employee likes to be appreciated (everyone is
different). The second part of this is to learn what motivates each individual and cater to
                           their strengths.

Planning for the future; when it comes to CMS means project management. We have many
factors to consider when planning a year out. We have certain Project Manager’s strengths
and weaknesses to consider, budget perimeters, weather concerns (particularly in the
PNW), permitting delays, change order possibilities, engineering, architectural designs, city
approvals, swing stages, scaffolding, sidewalk protection. There are many facets to our
positions to consider with every project we do. Finally, how our projects will affect the
                           residents and the Operations teams.

My personal core values are trustworthiness, integrity, honesty, strength to persevere,
respect and gratitude. I lead by example. I’ve done everything that I ask my team to do. I
give my team the respect and space they need & have earned to complete their tasks.

Fun Fact: My biggest interests are hot rods and hunting. I had a once in a lifetime
Washington moose tag this year which I filled as well as Washington deer and Montana
deer. I currently own three hot rods and my son has one, we attend car shows regularly
(except during C-19!) I also enjoy buying and selling antiques mostly car related though.
