COVID-19 has provided
the Saskatchewan
Aviation Museum and
Learning Centre a few
challenges.
Like many non-profit organizations and small
businesses, the SAMLC relies on public support to
keep the doors open. During the four-month
closure, many major fund-raising opportunities
were lost. The pandemic forced the museum to
restructure its operations and reduce the
museum’s footprint at Hangar 5.
On the positive side, the pandemic has provided an
opportunity to “reinvent” ourselves. Listed are
some of initiatives the museum undertook:
From June to September over 85 Tiger Moth
rides were sold. Due to the Tiger Moth
success, the plan is to add an aircraft next
spring and train three new pilots.
The City of Saskatoon provided a grant to
refurbish the classroom / meeting room.
New lighting, window coverings and 65-
inch monitor and computer have
modernized that space. The museum is
looking forward to receiving students and
partaking in our Learning Centre.
Kinsman Club of Saskatoon provided a grant
to refurbish the Learning Centre’s three
flight simulators with new computers,
monitors, desks and hardware. The
simulators are a real hit with all our
guests.
