Haiku poems

Based on figure 18 results that five (62.5%) Student teachers indicated that they found the use of
Haiku as an ancient form of poem writing was also easy to teach to learners because of its small

size as well as the precise punctuation and syllables. Karki (2016) supported this response in the
literature review where it was said that poetry was regarded as the oldest genre and is an automatic

outcome of the human mind. It means poetry is the expression of emotion and imagination. Its

content, which includes the language of poetry, is different from prose. It follows the prosodic
features of the language. There are different forms of poetry because of their nature.

               Sonnet poems

As a result from figure 18 two (25%) Student teachers alluded that Sonnet poems are so much easy

to teach and learners understood them easily. This was supported by Karki (2016) whereby he
indicated that a Sonnet is a short, self-contained lyric poem of 14 iambic pentameter lines with a

               definite rhyme scheme.

4.3.19 Employing the learner-centered approach in poetry teaching

Here respondents were asked to express their views about learner-centered approaches they used
in teaching poetry. Below are some of their views.
