Improves understanding and writing skills

According to figure 20, improve understanding and writing (37.3%) Student teacher respondents

explained that poetry boosts one’s understanding of the interpretation of metaphors. Both teachers
and learners will understand the figurative speeches and apply them in their writings and this will

make them to be creative writers.

               Enhances creativity and critical thinking

Results in figure 20, revealed that one (12.5 %) Student teacher indicted that poetry enhances

learners’ creativity and critical thinking by helping them to be creative in the future. The student
further stated that poetry allows them to individually use brains and make meaning of things. This

feedback given by the student teacher was supported by Josephine (2013) in the literature review

of this study where she stipulated that the vast benefits of poetry are on language improvement,
knowledge expansion, intelligence sharpening, and general inspiration to mankind, and so it

deserves being instituted into the school curriculum as an autonomous and compulsory academic
               discipline.

               Improves language usage

The findings from figure 20, showed that four (50%) Student teachers recommended that poetry

improves the language usage of learners and teachers. They further expressed that poetry language

helps the learners with articulation and how they can use certain charms in their lives, as well as
               how to express themselves.
