expressed that they always struggled in acquiring enough teaching materials for poetry lessons

and insufficient information affected the learners’ learning

To evaluate the effectiveness of teaching strategies for poetry in English as a second language

the study findings reveled that student teachers tried various teaching methods to make poetry
lessons interesting for the learners. Some of the effective teaching methods and strategies the

result showed such the use of visual and audio teaching aids, encouranging learners to think

creatively and the study findings also showed that positive reinfoircement was an effective
teaching strategy that helped some student teachers to carry out their poetry lessons

               successfully.

The study also explored the level of understanding and the value of poetry in English as a

second language among student teachers at UNAM, main Campus. The result revealed that the

majority of the student teachers indicated that they had a thorough understanding of all different
forms of poetry, while some indicated that they felt that they did not have a thorough

understanding of all different forms of poetry. Karki, (2016), supported this response of student
teachers by saying that having thorough knowledge and understanding of all different forms of

poetry in literature review who said that there are different forms of poetry based on their
               nature.

The finding on how student teacher employed learner centred approach when teaching poetry

the result indicated that all poetry lessons were given within a learner-centered approach.
However, some of the respondents indicated that the lessons were not given within a learner-

centered approach because of various factors such as insufficient and limited time allocated to
               poetry lessons.

Results concluded that using poetry, in the language classroom, has a great influence on improving
students’ vocabulary and pronunciation competences. In addition, students during this study

developed positive attitudes towards poetry as their motivation has evolved. Finally, teachers had
positive attitudes towards integrating poetry in their classes, as poetry has great influence regarding

pedagogical value, language skills, cultural understanding and motivation dimensions.

               1.3 Recommendations

Given the identified challenges, some of the recommendations suggested by respondents is
that it is important if teachers try and break down the idea into a small idea. This has to be

done by breaking down words. Another thing is to make meaning of the content and not

always try to understand every word.
