How to operate products
Yoon: May I help you, sir? It seems that you’re interested to know more about this item.
John: Yes, could you show me how to operate this Electronic Data Processing Machinery, EDPM-
10089? Based on the flyers you have, it has all the features that I’m looking for. However, it
looks so high-tech and I’m afraid that I won’t be able to confidently operate this item. Can you
show me how?
Yoon: Certainly. First of all, put the tape in and press this button.
John: That grey one? Oh, I understand. After that, will everything be okay? It sure is easy to oper-
ate.
Yoon: Yes, Sir. You can also look at the color coded buttons here at the left side. If you want the
machine to start working, you can press on the green button. The yellow button will make it
pause, and the red one will make it stop. This big button here is for turning the machine on
and off. If this one is too complicated for you, can I interest you in any other similar samples?
I think this one is even simpler and more compact than the EDPM-10089. It’s fully automatic
machinery, as you can see in the catalog.
1. Do you often call in for assistance in operating gadgets or appliances? Why
or why not?
Sample answer:
No, I don’t. I usually consult the users manual first. I’m a do-it-yourself person. I’m very
independent. I try to discover things and fix things myself.
2. What item in the market do you think you’d call in for assistance in operat-
ing? Why?
Sample answer:
I think I’d probably ask for help in operating an oven. There are just so many knobs for an oven.
I’m scared to turn the wrong one and cause a fire in the kitchen. I’m not a domestic person, so
I don’t know how to operate most kitchen appliances.
3. Do you think you can do a great job at helping people operating a gadget or
appliance once you’ve been trained for it? Why or why not?
