1. You are a customer who wants to settle claims. Explain why you want to do
so, and what you want to get from the company.
a. late delivery
b. damaged product
c. cancelled deal
Sample answer:
I want to settle claims for the transaction I had with you. You can check your documents and
look for your deal with Silver Town, Inc. We asked you to deliver 500 units of laptops to New
York. They should have been delivered last Friday, but they only arrived today, Monday. Aside
from that, we discovered that five items have been damaged during the shipment. Due to the
late arrival of the delivery and our inability to produce five working units to replace, the five
damaged ones, out clients in New York decided to call off the deal. We lost a huge amount of
money because of your poor service. We cannot take this matter sitting down. We have to be
compensated for the damage that you have caused us. I hope that you will act on our case as
soon as possible.
2. A client is asking for more than the settlement claims stipulates. Explain why
his extra demands cannot be accommodated. Cite the reasons below.
a. Importance of sticking to the contract
b. The case may serve as a precedent
c. The company has done enough already.
Sample answer:
I regret to tell you, Mr. Yee that we cannot accommodate the demands that you’re making. We
understand that we have committed an oversight in transacting with you, and that’s why we
are ready to give what is due to you in relation only to what the claims contract states. Other
demands that do not appear in the contract will not be accommodated. We are just being care-
ful because giving your demands may serve as a precedent for similar cases in the future. We
think that the company has done enough already, after all we followed everything stipulated
in the contract. We hope that you’ll understand, Mr. Yee.
