1. Arrhenius Theory
According to Arrhenius, acids are substances
which release H ions in water, while bases are

substances which release OH ions in water. So
the carriers of acidic properties are H ions,

while the carriers of basic properties are OH
ions. Arrhenius acid is formulated as H Z, which

The number of H ions that can be produced by 1 acid molecule is

called the valence of the acid, while the negative ion formed from the
acid after releasing H ions is called the residual acid ion. Some

examples of acids can be seen in Table 1 below.
The Arrhenius base is a metal hydroxide, M(OH) , which decomposes
