DMTC Welcomes New Employees for 2021-2022 School Year
Mr. Heath Roberts is the new director of Daniel Morgan Technol-
ogy Center. Roberts previously served as the director of the Spar-
tanburg County Master Skills Center. He has also served as an
assistant director and a work-based learning coordinator in Cher-
okee County and an instructor at DMTC. The faculty and staff at
DMTC are excited to welcome Mr. Roberts to their team as they
continue to seek excellence in preparing District 3 and District 7
students for thriving careers in South Carolina.
Gary Barnard is our new School to Career Coordinator and will
be overseeing our work-based students on co-ops. Barnard has
been in education an amazing 41 years, serving 37 of those in
District 3 as a counselor, assistant principal, principal, and most
recently as Director of Guidance at Broome High School. When
asked why he has stayed in education for so many years, his an-
swer was that he enjoys building relationships with students and helping them
reach their goals. He added that he believes his work helps keep him young!
Tommy Swanger is our new Welding instructor. Swanger is a
former DMTC welding student who graduated the program in
1993. He completed a co-op while here with Sanders Brothers,
Inc., where he continued employment after graduation. He re-
ceived his welding certification through SCC and spent most of
his career working with Honeywell Aerospace as a certified
welder and supervisor overseeing work on commercial and mili-
tary aircraft engines. He says it has always been a dream of his to come back and
teach students welding skills to help launch them toward a successful career.
Caroline Stevenson joined our maintenance team this year. She
has worked in District 3 since 2004 at Broome High School and
Cowpens Elementary. Before that, she worked as a waitress,
which she continues to do as a side job even today. On Sun-
days, her only day off, she enjoys being “Nana” to three beauti-
ful grandchildren. She said she loves DMTC because the people
are friendly, and the students are very respectful.
