DMTC Students Win CTE Awards for the Upstate Region
Congratulations to Kimberly Atkins and Colton Wells who
received CTE Awards last May for the Upstate Region,
which is composed of the nine school districts in Chero-
kee, Spartanburg, and Union Counties. Kimberly Atkins is
the Upstate Tec Champion for the 2020-2021 school year
and will receive a $250.00 scholarship. Colton Wells is the
Upstate Work-Based Learning Student of the Year. We
are so proud of these students and want to thank Mrs.
Theresa Perry, who nominated them for the award.
Electricity Students Add Light to DMTC
Electricity II and III students installed 4 LED lay-in light fixtures
in a recently renovated area of DMTC. The space was part of
the area previously occupied by Culinary Arts program. The
addition of this lighting will enhance the new workspace used
by faculty and staff. Students complete simulated projects in
the classroom daily, but they enjoyed the experience of work-
ing on a live project and seeing a finished product.
Culinary Students Enjoy a Taste of Fall
Culinary Arts II students have been working on a Dry Cooking Tech-
niques Unit, which includes sautéing, frying, pan frying, roasting,
grilling, and baking. Students most recently roasted a whole chick-
en seasoned with a garlic lemon compound butter. The chicken
was complemented with roasted, rosemary-flavored root vegeta-
bles including carrots, parsnips, and turnips. They also practiced
their trussing techniques of binding the chicken to ensure even
cooking. Next, they will be making grilled pound cake, pineapples,
and bananas topped with a coconut caramel sauce to end the unit.
