Machine Tool Students Making Strides
Congratulations to Owen Allen for receiving his second NIMS cer-
tification, Milling I, in Mr. Garner’s Machine Tool Technology III
class. This is a two-part test on performance and theory. Owen
had to use the milling machine to make a part that is 100% accu-
rate with the official blueprint. It is then verified by a MET-
TEC inspection, which consists of three evaluators. Owen passed
both portions and earned the certification.
Owen is also participating in a co-op at Certified Diesel, LLC. We
are very proud him and are excited for the opportunities this cer-
tification and work experience will provide him. Owen will be a
double completer at DMTC when he graduates in May 2022.
Broome High School senior Jacob Price is participating in a DMTC
work-based learning co-op with Barnett Machining, LLC. He is pic-
tured operating a CNC turning center. Jacob will be a double com-
pleter at DMTC when he graduates in May 2022. We are super
proud of Jacob!
We are also proud to announce that Nathan Scruggs, Spartanburg High
School junior and Machine Tool Technology II student, earned his first
National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certification pertaining
to Measurement, Materials, and Safety. Mr. Garner, the Machine Tool
instructor, says this is a difficult certification to earn, so we want to say
congratulations to Nathan! DMTC is proud to offer numerous types of
certifications to students to help them become college and career ready.
Theresa Perry Retires from DMTC
DMTC would like to wish Theresa Perry a Happy Retirement! She did
a great job serving as the Industrial Relations Coordinator the past
seven years where she placed many students in work-based learning
positions. She stayed on the first quarter of this year to help pass on
her knowledge to Mr. Gary Barnard who will be her replacement.
Thanks Theresa for all you have done for DMTC! You will be missed!
