Chapter 7

                                          Permanent Hair Colouring: Tint

                   First Time Permanent Colour.

A totally new canvas nothing could be more exciting. But first you must
remember to carry out the 48 hour skin test to see if the client is allergic
to PPD’s. As with bleaching or any type of hair colour, consultation is
                   everything.

When your client is choosing her desired colour make sure that she is
choosing from a colour chart of the range of colours that you will use,
never try to match the colour in a photograph, or a magazine that the
client has brought in (that way leads to disaster).

Try to help the client with her selection by only showing her the range
she is interested in, never give her the chart and say “pick a colour”, this
is very confusing for the client and she will never be able to decide which
of the 70 colours she wants.

If it is the client’s idea to change her colour talk to her and find out what
she has in mind, a different shade of brown, a red or maybe a blonde.
Once you know the type of colour your client is looking for, then just
show her colours in that particular range. Recommend one from the range
that she has chosen with a corresponding base shade, once the colour has
been decided take the chart away, removing the temptation to keep
looking and change her mind while you are mixing the colour.
