Pre-lightening the natural base shade.
Pre-lightening:
It is possible to pre-lighten the client’s natural base shade with bleach so
that a lighter hair dye may be achieved. Pre-lightening is very tricky as
the darker colours lighten so quickly, and the answer to a good hair dye is
a corresponding natural base colour. (Fig 52.)
If my Base colour is too dark why can’t I just increase the peroxide
strength that I mix with the hair dye? Because, hair dye is hair dye, and
not a bleach.
You cannot lighten hair dye with a lighter hair dye; you can only darken
or change the tone of the existing base shade with hair dye. Peroxide on
its own even at strength of 60 volume would take absolutely hours to lift
half a shade.
