Accompany patient to the gate, if possible
Record the time and date of discharge
Do terminal cleaning and make the unoccupied bed
NB: If a patient insists upon going home against medical advice/AMA/, he should be
requested to sign a statement indicating that he is responsible for his action
3.5 Terminal cleaning of the unit/housekeeping/
Definition: Cleaning means to remove debris, soil, and some germs by mechanical (not
chemical) methods. It may include vacuuming, dusting, washing with water, or scrubbing
with soap and water.
Purpose: A regular cleaning program preserves and protects building assets such as
carpets, floors, tile surfaces, Equipment. It prevents excessive wear and extends lifespans.
Equipment
1. Basin
2. Cleaning cloths
3. Disinfectant solution (if available) e.g. Lysol
4. Scouring powder (vim or soap)
5. Floor mop
6. Broom
Procedure
1. The bed should be stripped and used linen should be discarded
2. Remove used Equipment from the room and take to the utility room
3. Collect waste and put in the wastebasket
4. Wash rubber sheet and hangover bed/rod to dry
5. Wash bed including the frame and springs
6. Wash bedside table inside, and outside including drawers
7. Put the mattress outside in the sun if possible
8. Clean and other Equipment in the unit, such as over-bed tables, Charis, etc.
9. Inform the cleaner to mop the floor and clean the toilet
10. Make a closed bed and air the room
11. Leave the room tidy and for the next patient
