FORT STEPHENSON-FIRELANDS CHAPTER #571,
William M. Bevens, Secretary. Fort Stephenson Firelands #571
members were active in the community during the Memorial
Day week and weekend. Members helped place flags on the
graves of veterans and firemen. During the weekend we
participated in 21-gun salutes at the Gibsonburg Veteran's
Memorial and at 5 local cemeteries. Additionally, we participated
in two community Memorial Day services and laid a wreath at
the Veterans Memorial. One member Paul Tornow Jr. was the
featured speaker for the service and ended his comments with the
Toast to the Flag. Brother Sojourner Wilson Allen handed out
toy soldiers to over 200 in attendance and the poem following
was read while the wreath was placed.

Take A Soldier Home Today
Please my friends, take a soldier home today,
Keep it as a reminder, when you bow your head to pray,
Pray for those who have fallen,
Pray for those who are still lost
Pray for their friends and families,
for they too, have paid the cost.
Pray for all who have,
As well as those still serving today
Pray that their sacrifices
shall not have or ever will be made in vain.
Pray Dear Lord please keep us all
In your Loving Grace
And please remember my friends
We are the land of the Free,
Because of the Brave.
Sojourners Paul Tornow and Dwight Damschroder during
the opening invocation.
