CAMP NEWS
LIGHT HORSE HARRY LEE CAMP (Old Dominion #364) Les Albers, Adjutant. On February 22,
2023, six members of Light Horse Harry Lee Camp were significant participants in the commemoration of the
291st birthday of Brother George Washington at his Mount Vernon tomb. The annual event was hosted by
WM David Bella (Hero) of Alexandria-Washington Lodge #22. Before posting the first memorial wreath,
Brother Barry Bartley, Camp Commander, provided stirring remarks recounting the military and political
achievements of Brother Washington that were essential to the founding of this democratic republic.
RW Daniel Clark (Hero) led a stirring Pledge of Allegiance. Wreaths were also laid by WB Joseph Gilkerson,
Brother Washington’s Fredericksburg Lodge #4’s Master, MW Kenneth Nagel, President of the George
Washington Masonic National Memorial Association, WB David Bella, Master of Alexandria-Washington
Lodge #22, and by MW Donald Strehle, Grand Master of Masons in Virginia. In attendance was the
68th Governor of Virginia, Brother James Gilmore. Four Heroes of Light Horse Harry Lee Camp, led by
Commander Barry Bartley, provided the color guard in continental uniforms consisting of Bros. William
Sanner, PC, Terry Gigure, PC, and Les Albers, PC and Adjutant.

LIGHT HORSE HARRY LEE CAMP (Old Dominion #364) Les Albers, Adjutant. On February 14,
2023, three members of Light Horse Harry Lee Camp dressed in Continental Army dress uniforms presented
the Historical Flag Ceremony to over 50 attendees at the monthly luncheon of a senior citizens’ group known
as the Silver Saints at Lake Ridge Baptist Church, Woodbridge, VA. Hero Barry Bartley, Camp Commander,
introduced his assistants and provided a crisp narration for
the ceremony. Heroes William Sanner, PP, PC and Federal
Area Representative and Les Albers, PC and Adjutant
displayed the 16 flags used in the program. Brother Sanner
delivered a flawless Toast to the Flag. The audience
responded with a clear and strong Pledge of Allegiance.
Brother Bartley presented the Patriot of ‘76 Certificate to
President James Teft who expressed the appreciation of the
association for our program. The program was well received
as a heartwarming and memorable patriotic event and
certainly fit into the Senior Saints’ mission statement: “Its
purpose is to provide services and activities to help older
